New Voices, New Worlds: Guest starring Lauren Tisdale

I believe strongly in paying it forward. A lot of people were kind enough to help me at the beginning of my journey by hosting me on their blogs and now it's time for me to the same. For the next two months, every Wednesday, I'll be bringing you a bevy of talented writers and some damn fine people I am blessed to call my friends.

This week we have the Lady Laureate of Words, herself, the Mighty Ms. Lauren Tisdale, author of the soon to be published "Circle of Secrets."

First and foremost, tell us a little bit about yourself, a mini bio that tells us all need to know about you in just 3 sentences.

Writing is my passion, one that I never gave myself enough credit for. Lacking confidence in my writing held me back, but not anymore. Soon to be (hopefully) published by Secret Cravings.

What’s currently cooking in that brilliant brain of yours?

Gods, so much it seems. Well my baby and first novel, “Circle of Secrets” has been picked up by Secret Cravings (in process of signing, crossing t’s and dotting I’s), as well as three works in progress. A 17thCentury book entitled Crimson Horizon, Erotica called Secret Inferno of Desire and a Norse Love story called Darkest Desires. Titles are subject to change, but it’s better than saying book 1, 2 and 3 <laughs>

What part of the day motivates you most?

Night, when husband and son are in bed and it’s just me and the computer. I can focus easier and listen to music while writing away.

Dr. Seuss, Dr. Who or Dr. House?

LOL Well, I actually have heard of Dr. Seuss. Dr. House is the dude with the cane addicted to pills right? And Dr. Who, wasn’t that Billy Ray Cyrus?? <shrugs> haven’t watched much of Who or House <laughs at how that sounds>

Favorite author and why?

hmm, this is a good question. I first fell in love with reading when I discovered Sara Shepard and then Stephanie Myers <winces> YES I loved the Twilight Series, do not judge me. I liked the way they wrote, and the stories they told. Then I discovered Sherilyn Kenyon and Charlaine Harris and from there it gave me inspiration and some to look up to. I also admire two of my good friends who constantly inspire me and help me through this journey who happen to be authors as well, the lovely Tori James and the amazing Jas T. Ward.

Do you have a certain style of writing or are you still trying to find it?

I’m not real sure, I mean I just kinda write. It’s weird, I’ll just get these images in my head and then I just write everything I see in that vision, everything I hear and try to describe it best as I can so you, the reader, can SEE what you’re reading. I guess you can say I’m a very visual person.

Music when you write? If so, what’s on your playlist?

Honestly, it varies depending on my mood OR the mood of what I’m writing. It ranges from New and Classic Country, to hip hop, R&B, sometimes I’ll just put my ipod on shuffle and go from there. I can be random at times. But for ‘Circle of Secrets’ I noticed I usually kept it on classic country while writing.

Do you have a particular genre you’re obsessed with?

Well, I’m fond of the Fiction, Fantasy and Erotica types.

Twilight Zone, Snapped or Reality Shows?

Oooo Snapped and SOME Reality shows, I will admit I am a fan of The Bachelor/Bachelorette because I’m such a hopeless romantic. And I’ll watch America’s Got Talent or American Idol too.

Pen name or using your own? If using a Pen Name, what inspired your choice?

Decided to use my own name, truthfully because I couldn’t think of a clever pen name lol and still I can’t decide if I want to use Maiden name or initial….decisions, decisions.

Fave food or drink?

I’m pretty partial to anything that’s chicken. Oh but I love a steak and grilled onions…mmmm <mouth waters>

Finally, give us some advice you’d have for all the dreamers out there who want to become doers.

Simple: DO IT! Don’t hold yourself back for fear, self consciousness, lack of drive or confidence. If you can dream it, you can do it. There is no one out there that can tell you you CAN’T, because if you want it badly enough…you can. I’m the biggest procrastinator and I wanted it bad enough. Thankfully I had a great support system of family and friends urging me on and making sure I continued to write. Don’t ever give up on your dreams, reach for the stars because the sky is the limit.
